Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) now maintains four specialty TB clinics in Chicago--Englewood, Uptown, West Town, and Lawndale Christian (the last is a subcontract site). The clinics are staffed by physicians who generally assume responsibility for the TB care for the patients referred to them. A few patients are co-managed by private providers who communicate monthly with the clinic regarding patient progress. Treatment standards strive to follow American Thoracic Society and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines. Directly observed therapy (DOT) is the standard of care for all patients with active TB. These specialty TB clinics prioritize services for patients with suspected or confirmed active TB and contacts of active cases. Other persons needing TB screening or preventive therapy are encouraged to obtain these services through their primary care provider or their nearest CDPH Neighborhood Health Center.
